Hot Spots

Designing your own Notebook Activities with Hot Spots

Inside the Lesson Activity Toolkit of the SMART Notebook software, you'll find the Lesson Activity Toolkit.

In the toolkit, you'll find a large number of tools and a nice collection of interactive objects to help you build your own notebooks for use with the SMART Board.

If you scroll well down the list of objects in the Interactive and Multimedia collection, you'll find an object entitled Hot Spots. This is a very interesting object when the goal is to be able to identify various parts of an object. It's worth some exploration as it will be very useful for introducing or reinforcing concepts.

The object is wide open. You create the question, tell the object where the correct answer is, and you can also determine how to determine if the answer is correct.

You can determine the correctness by the distance the student clicks the screen, or it might be OK just to define a region where a correct answer is "close". Keep score and there's even exciting music to make the experience even better.

Some objects are just no brainers for this type of activity and in fact, come preprogrammed. For example, a world map.

Or, how about the Human Body?

Or, how about a Cartesian coordinates?

Or, a Venn Diagram?

But it gets exciting when you create your own diagram. Just take an image and put it on your document. Send it to the back and choose "Other" for a diagram. This makes this object modifiable for any subject.

There is no limit to what you can do.  Create one of these per page and you'll have a Notebook in no time.
